Consumers of imported sleep aids who were born in the 1990s accounted for 62 percent of the total amount of buyers between January and August in 2019, data from an e-commerce platform suggests.

Furthermore, the number of post-90s consumers of imported sleep aids surged by 118 percent in this period.

Many popular products aren't exactly cheap. One type of steam eye mask is sold for 79 yuan per pack and the price of certain essential oils as well as silk eye masks could be as high as 200 or 300 yuan.

Besides sleeping aid products, dozens of sleeping aid apps can be found in app stores on mobile phones. Insiders pointed out that the market size of China's sleeping industry is expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan by 2030.

Yi Fei, a senior college student, said he spent about 500 yuan in less than one year on sleeping aid products such as melatonin, earplugs as well as eye masks because he found himself having trouble to sleep at night.

In fact, 68.2 percent of post-90s individuals cannot sleep well, or cannot sleep at all according to a survey. Furthermore, the average time they go to sleep is about 10 minutes to midnight.

A report shows that 54.3 percent of the age group plays on electronic equipment such as mobile phones and iPads before going to sleep for an average of 50 minutes.
