Creative photos taken by volunteer teachers become popular online

By Zhao Tong (People's Daily Online)    15:54, September 09, 2019

Volunteer teachers at a primary school in Baise, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, have taken photos of local children using a SLR camera, hoping to capture memories of their growth, Beijing Youth reported on Sept. 9, 2019. These photos are also intended to show the vitality of students in rural areas.

In the photos, the ground is painted with different patterns, and pupils were laying down on chalk drawings to pose. They are not reserved in front of the camera, but full of expressive desire: some children put their heads in their hands and make expressions of laughter; some students put on combat moves, but the smile on their faces is hard to hide.

Some netizens commented that although the children didn't wear makeup, and the clothes they wore are not fashionable, their eyes reveal their hopes for the world and furthermore their creative paintings demonstrate that everyone has definite expectations for the future.

Miss. Zhang and her partner came to teach in this mountainous primary school in 2016, and they spent a total of two years there. During this period, they took thousands of photos for their students.

When Zhang first came to the primary school, Zhang was a poor student who had just graduated from Xiamen University majoring in economics. Therefore, she bought an SLR camera on installment to take photos for students.

Working at a boarding school, Zhang was not only responsible for the children's study as a Chinese teacher but was also required to care about the children's daily life, since many of the students are left-behind children.

The principal of the primary school, Huang Zhong, said that the school currently has 574 students, about 20 percent of whom come from low-income families . For these children who grew up in the mountains, these volunteer teachers brought advanced learning methods and broad vision, which helped children to get out of the mountains and have a better future.

“These photos recorded the children's lives and dreams, and they would bravely realize their dreams in the future,” said Huang.
