BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has called for efforts to strengthen the capacity in preventing and controlling forest and grassland fires during fire-prone seasons.
Li demanded higher priority of fire prevention and enhanced overall capabilities, according to his written instruction to a national teleconference on forest and grassland fire prevention and control held Friday.
Fire prevention infrastructure, emergency response, early fire warning and monitoring systems, and command effectiveness should be enhanced to forestall major forest and grassland fires, Li stressed.
State Councilor Wang Yong, also head of the national headquarters of forest and grassland fire prevention and control, called for combined and coordinated efforts to this end at the meeting.
Specific campaigns will be launched to check and crack down on illegal activities that might cause forest and grassland fires, according to Wang.
