"The Mule," crime drama by Clint Eastwood, to hit Chinese mainland theaters

BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Loosely based on a true Michigan drug bust, "The Mule," an American crime drama film directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, is set to open in Chinese mainland theaters on Aug. 26, according to the official Weibo account of production company Warner Bros.

Inspired by a startling 2014 article in the New York Times Magazine called "The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule," the film tells of a horticulturalist and war veteran, who, in his 80s, is caught transporting millions of dollars worth of cocaine for a Mexican drug cartel.

Clint Eastwood is the Oscar-winning director of "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby," and an actor best known for his roles in high profile western films throughout the latter 20th century.

The film's worldwide release started in December 2018.
