NEW DELHI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The recent meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump was an important step in removing the trust deficit between the two countries, a Chinese official has said here.

Yang Yanyi, former Chinese ambassador to the European Union, made the remarks during a visit to India as a member of a Chinese delegation.

Yang said the China-U.S. relationship was based on cooperation, coordination and stability in an interactive session with journalists organized by the Indian Association of Foreign Affairs Correspondents.

Yang spoke extensively of various facets of the U.S.-initiated trade war, quoting facts and evidence to counter the allegations made by the United States on issues like trade imbalances, perceived threats to national security due to technology transfers and more.

She further stressed that the United States should focus on internal reform and inclusive growth rather than resort to blaming other countries.

The delegation held candid discussions with Indian journalists by answering a host of questions pertaining to topics like the Belt and Road Initiative and Chinese telecom company Huawei's role in the 5G network roll-out in India.
