The Beijing Women’s Federation (BWF) has endeavored to prioritize the safeguarding of women’s rights and interests, setting up an interview mechanism and 6,879 service teams to deal with violations of women’s rights and interests, according to a recent press conference jointly held by the information office of Beijing municipal government and BWF, Beijing Daily reported on Wednesday via its app.

“Since 2016, we have interviewed those who were responsible for diminishing women’s image and other cases of women’s rights and interests being violated,” said an executive of the BWF. He disclosed that the organization had interviewed relevant people in nearly 10 major cases over the past three years, including Yu Minhong, founder of a famous education company New Oriental who was criticized by Chinese netizens for his controversial remarks about women.

According to the executive, the organization has also helped companies with the building of grass-roots women’s organizations and the creation of a corporate culture that respects women and boosts harmony.

In a bid to find better ways to help women, the BWF divided the counseling services under its hotline 12338 into eight parts, including complaints, legal consultancy services, psychological counseling, guidance on family education, housekeeping services, matchmaking, and social services.

The city has also created 6,879 teams of female volunteers to help people and identify clues and hidden problems in conflicts and disputes concerning women.

“These volunteers help popularize policies, spread information and facilitate communication. They mediate in cases they can handle and report the ones that are beyond their capabilities to relevant departments,” explained the BWF executive.
