A number of creative products relating to the iconic terracotta warriors are emerging as Chinese museums continue to roll out various innovative cultural products. However, some products have received backlash.

For example, Hou Ningbin, head of the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, said the museum doesn’t support hotels which develop terracotta warrior-themed rooms, saying a hotel room with such a theme for entertainment purposes is disrespectful, according to Chinanews.com on April 3.

Mausoleums are solemn places, so are products related to them, Hou explained.

Although some people claim that the terracotta warrior hotels are creative, others have criticized them, noting that mausoleum culture should not be used in the name of entertainment and should instead be respected.

The methods and carriers to display terracotta warrior culture are outdated and do not meet people’s cultural demands, Hou said. However, he added that perhaps one reason for this is that mausoleums, in general, are not as approachable as other landmarks.

He said that creative cultural products should be close to people’s lives and have vitality so that visitors will want to visit.
