The Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is a major time of celebration in China. It is a time of family reunion and delicious food and the Spring Festival is not complete without some delicious dumplings.
Dumplings are more than just a food. Making and eating dumplings with loved ones is an important activity for Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations, especially in northern China. At home or far away from home, Chinese will gather for a meal that incudes dumplings on the eve of Chinese Lunar New Year.
Of course, we do not want to leave you, our foreign friends, out of the celebrations, so to celebrate the Spring Festival, People’s Daily Overseas Social Media decided to have some fun, with a friendly but fierce contest at a cafeteria at People’s Daily to see who can make the most dumplings in the shortest time possible.
Who will win the contest? Will there be a surprise that helps one team “magically” win the contest (at least in terms of quantity)? You’ll have to watch to find out.
After the contest, we show you how to make traditional dumplings, because while the competition is fun, making dumplings is an important part of Chinese culture. It’s important for all of us to learn how to make dumplings so that we can better understand Chinese culture and the Chinese people.
