A survey shows that the young people in China approve of China's development direction and have an increasing sense of national identity and pride in being Chinese.

It found 93.5 percent of Chinese young people have confirmed that they would be willing to be born Chinese again, if they had another life.

Conducted by the China Youth Daily in November, the survey shows that 92 percent of young people in China believe Chinese society is developing in a good direction.

As many as 96.1 percent of the respondents express that they often take pride in the achievements China has made.

Some 88.6 percent of them confirm that they would stay in China no matter what happened in the country, even if they had a chance to emigrate.

The survey also shows that 82.8 percent of Chinese young people think it feels as though they are personally criticized if their country is under criticism. Some 60.1 percent of them would be embarrassed by existing problems in China.

When asked about China's overall social development since the year 1978, 92.9 percent of respondents believe that the country is marching in a good direction, 2.4 percent answered neither good nor bad, and 4.1 percent believe it has been up and down. Merely 0.6 percent said the country is going "in a worse direction."

In a survey 20 years ago, 89.9 percent of the respondents believed that China was developing in a good direction.

The comparison shows that young people in contemporary China are more confident and positive about China's development and growth in both national power and international status.

It also shows young people have a stronger sense of national identity.
