Zhongshan Economic Zone to introduce new projects to attract investment

By Abdul Wajid Khan (People's Daily Online)    11:05, August 11, 2018

GUIZHOU (People’s Daily Online) - Steps have been taken to create a better environment for investors in the Zhongshan Economic Development Zone (EDZ), said Liao Xiang, a local official in Liupanshui, China’s Guizhou province recently.

Liao is looking forward to cooperating with companies and the participation of entrepreneurs in a number of agricultural, bio-pharmaceutical and Chinese patent medicine, green food and new energy projects.

He said that Zhongshan EDZ plans to introduce new energy and other projects including shale gas and coal-bed methane comprehensive development, research, processing and utilization projects, as Liupanshui is rich in shale gas, coal-bed methane, coke oven gas and other resources.

While addressing a delegation of journalists from Asian, African and Latin American countries, Liao said that “we will uphold the concept of win-win development and common prosperity, with open minds, efficient work and considerate service, in order to create a better environment for investors to develop in the Zhongshan EDZ”.

Zhongshan EDZ is a provincial-level development zone with prominent regional advantages, strong policy support and a high quality of service. It is considered an important step for the integration of Guizhou into the Belt and Road Initiative.

Liao added that by 2021, the total industrial output value of the Zhongshan EDZ will reach more than 20 billion yuan (about $3 billion), the industrial added value will exceed 5 billion yuan (about $734 million) and the output value of high-tech industries will reach 10 billion yuan.

There will be more than 50 high-tech enterprises, gathering a number of leading businesses and national-level innovation and entrepreneurship platforms.

To date, Zhongshan EDZ has completed infrastructure investment in the top 10 professional markets, with a completed construction area of one million square meters and 235 signed projects, with accumulated funds standing at 29.2 billion yuan (about $4.38 billion), Liao said.

He added that the EDZ plans to have bio-pharmaceuticals and Chinese patent medicine processing parks, and will seek out international business development in this industry. There are 4,802 kinds of traditional Chinese medicines in Guizhou Province, with the number of Chinese herbal medicines ranking first in China.

“We are looking for companies to cooperate in the development of deep processing projects for agricultural products. Liupanshui has the reputation of ‘the hometown of the ancient ginkgo forests’, ‘the hometown of wild kiwifruit in China’ and ‘the hometown of wild yew in China’”, he said.

“We are also planning to introduce high-end education and medical projects to meet the needs of regional development. Relying on the unique climate advantages of Liupanshui, we will build a high-quality and high-standard international tourism complex, focusing on building summer apartments, summer clubs, folk customs streets, aviation health care bases, summer luxury hotels and high-end summer resorts”, he concluded.
