The 2018 Liupanshui International Marathon took place in southwest China’s Guizhou province on July 29, seeing competitors from Kenya take first and second place in both the men’s and women’s full-distance marathon.

Kipsaat Mathew from Kenya finished the men’s full marathon in 2:16:10, ranking first, while another Kenyan athlete came second, just 36 seconds behind Mathew.

In the women’s marathon, all three medals went to Kenyan athletes.

The game attracted more than 30,000 participants from 16 countries and regions including France, Australia and Kenya. The youngest contestant was a one-year-old while the oldest was 87.

This is the fifth year that Liupanshui Summer International Marathon has been held and the third year in a row that it’s been named a China Gold Label Road Race.

The 2018 Liupanshui marathon was also included in the national marathon championships through the Chinese Athletics Association (CAA), to integrate popular and competitive sports.
