By Morag Hobbs (People's Daily Online)    10:33, June 26, 2018

Fan Xiaoli, the Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangxi Committee, speaks at the ceremony.

The opening ceremony for the Guangxi Tour for Overseas Media was held on June 25, in Nanning, capital city of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Among those present were heads of Chinese media along with journalists from over 20 countries.

The tour, which is organised by the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangxi Committee, will last a total of five days and will see 45 foreign journalists visit 14 different cities to explore the beautiful landscape, visit local industries and see the government’s targeted poverty alleviation scheme in action.

Fan Xiaoli, the Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangxi Committee, opened the ceremony by expressing her hope that through what journalists see and hear over the coming week, they will see that Guangxi is implementing the new mission under the guidance of President Xi Jinping.

She added that Guangxi not only boasts beautiful and unique natural scenery, but also a very distinctive cultural environment alongside development opportunities.

Guangxi is located in Southwest China and boasts a coastline of 1,595km, which makes it one of China’s most convenient passages to the sea. The province is going from strength to strength due to its prime geographical location.

Liu Huaxin, President of Guangxi Branch of People’s Daily, speaks at the ceremony.

As Liu Huaxin, President of Guangxi Branch of People’s Daily, said at the tour’s opening ceremony, “Guangxi is not only about the sea and rivers, but is also building itself into an international passage, using a new strategic method for opening up trade in Southern China as an important gateway to the Belt and Road.”

It’s hoped that over the following week, foreign journalists will enjoy the beauty of Guangxi, but also learn about the government measures taken to assure that both industry and future generations thrive here going forward.

Officials and a representative of foreign journalists jointly launch the tour.
