China's State Immigration Administration (SIA) formally began operation on April 2. Since then, 1,881 foreigners have received their Chinese green cards over the last two months thanks to the optimization of the application process.
The number is equivalent to the total number issued in 2017.
Those obtaining the permanent residence status include scientists in the field of basic science research, leading talents in the applied research sector, PhD supervisors in universities and scientific research institutes, excellent entrepreneurs, and their spouses and children.
The permanent residence permit system is vital in attracting talents from all over the world, serving as a key part of China's current talent policy.
SIA will further reform measures towards the permanent residence permit system to make the application more accessible.
Together with other relevant departments, the administration will provide more convenient services for "green card" holders when dealing with financial affairs, education, medical treatment, as well as traffic, communication and social insurance. These reforms will create favorable conditions to attract more people into getting involved in China’s development.
