A study published by US researchers says that the Trump administration's proposal to impose further tariffs on imports from China is estimated to hurt the U.S. economy and cost thousands of American jobs.

The study has been jointly released by the national Retail Federation and the Consumer Technology Association.

It says that the US proposal to impose 25-percent tariffs on Chinese goods and China's counter measures are expected to reduce US output by nearly 3 billion US dollars, and nearly 134-thousand workers are likely to lose their jobs.

It adds that most of those will be less-skilled workers.

The report also says that American farmers are expected to see their net incomes drop by 6.7 percent due to these tariffs, and jobs in the sector would fall by over 67-thousand, along with 11-thousand more lost in the manufacturing sector.

The Trump administration in April proposed to levy 25-percent of tariffs on 50 billion dollars worth of Chinese imports.

In response, China has laid out 50 billion dollars of imports from the US that will be subject to additional tariffs.

The latest study shows that the tariffs will hurt every US state, while states including California, Texas, Florida and New York will suffer the highest job losses.

The report comes as Trump announced that a US delegation, including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, will arrive in China on Thursday to begin talks over trade frictions.
