2 tankers collide in Singapore waters

(Xinhua)    09:59, April 18, 2018

SINGAPORE, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced that it received a report about a tanker collision early Tuesday.

The two tankers reported no injuries to their crew, according to the MPA.

The report was received at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday about a collision between Singapore-registered LPG tanker CRYSTAL SUNRISE and Greece-registered tanker ASTRO SATURN.

The Channel NewsAsia reported on late Tuesday night that the two tankers collided off the coast of Singapore, causing a liquefied butane gas leak.

The MPA said that as liquefied butane has a high evaporation rate, it had assessed that any leaked butane would have been carried southward away from mainland Singapore, where most of it would have rapidly dissipated to below flammable levels within an hour and pose no risk to shipping. Enditem
