The appreciation of the Chinese renminbi, or the yuan, has a positive impact on Chinese nationals traveling overseas during the upcoming Chinese New Year, ThePaper.cn reported on Feb. 1.
The U.S., Russia, and Japan are all on the list of favorite overseas destinations by Chinese tourists, according to statistics provided by domestic travel agencies.
Ctrip, the country’s largest online tour provider, expects 6.5 million trips to happen during the upcoming national holiday, setting a new record.
The Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam are also among the top ten destinations for Chinese travelers.
Russia unexpectedly became a hot destination last winter, according to Lvmama.com, a Chinese online travel agency. Winter is the slack tourist season for Russia, but the country received double the number of Chinese tourists last winter compared with 2016, data from Lvmama.com shows, attributing to the ease of visa policy and the devaluation of Russian ruble against the yuan.
