A one-legged sanitation worker with hearing and speech disabilities in Xi’an, northwestern China’s Shaanxi province, has stuck to his post for 12 years, local media reported.

The 47-year-old man named Shang Wuyi lost his left leg in a train accident 41 years ago. For a long time, he was unable to stand. But he kept on practicing and finally learnt to support his body with a crutch. Now he is able to do all kinds of chores.

According to Shang’s colleague surnamed Yao, the man has never asked for leave during his 12-years of service, and he is also an early bird who always arrives at his workplace half an hour before the required time.

“This job is what we do for a living,” said Shang’s wife Wang Yaqin, who is also a sanitation worker. “Though he can’t speak, I know that he cherishes the job very much,” she said, adding that he even wants to do it better than other people.

Working as a sanitation worker for 12 years, Shang has become a well-known person in the neighborhood. A senior citizen said that they might not know his name, but everyone should give a thumb up to him for his dedication.
