SYDNEY, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The ambulance crew from the Australian state of Queensland have garnered international fame after they went out of their way to give a dying woman a final view of the ocean.

A photo of paramedic Graeme Cooper standing next to a palliative care patient looking at the waters at Hervey Bay, 290 km north of Brisbane, has gone around the world since it was posted on social media on Thursday.

Cooper and colleague Danielle Kellan were transporting the patient to a local hospital when she told them she wished she could see the beach one more time.

The pair seized the opportunity and took her to a local beach, fulfilling her wish.

"It was basically going to be her last journey back to her house where she was basically going to pass away," Cooper told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Friday.

"She said she loved the esplanade and the beach and we said, 'well, do you want us to take you down by the esplanade and pop you out of the truck and give you a look at the ocean?'"

"She was just ecstatic."

Cooper even walked down to the water and scooped some in a bag so the woman could put her arm in.

"I can't describe the feeling, when you're in the situations with people," he said.

"It's just very humbling to have these experiences."

Kellan, who took the photo which has since gone viral, said it was a privilege to accommodate such a request.

"I said to the patient, 'what are you thinking?' She was looking out towards Fraser Island and she said, 'I'm at peace, everything's right,'" Kellan said.
