Phryganistria chinensis Zhao has been listed by the Guinness Book of Record as the world’s largest insect and its first egg in China hatched in Chengdu, southwestern Sichuan province. The eggs are dark brown and are 5mm long and 4 mm wide, comparatively large for insects. A newly-hatched larva is now around 3 cm long. (Photo: China News Service/An Yuan)
