Chinese acupuncturist becomes academician of the Academy of Latinity

Song Nanhua, a Chinese acupuncturist in Brazil, has become a new academician of the Academy of Latinity, Xinhua News Agency reported on Sep. 24.

The Academy of Latinity is an academic institution headquartered in Brasilia, Brazil. It consists of 250 academicians from 23 Latin American countries. The academy aims to promote communication, contact, and cooperation in social science and culture among Latin American countries and carry out academic exchanges and cooperation with relevant institutions around the world.

Twelve people were accepted as new academicians, among which three are representatives from the Brazilian medical community. Song is the first Chinese to win the honor.

Song is from the city of Lincang in China's Yunnan province. He graduated from the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and moved to Brazil in 1995. Afterward, he opened his own acupuncture clinic. For over 20 years, Song has been committed to promoting traditional Chinese medicine and has won trust and favor from Brazilians with his noble medical ethics and excellent medical skills. In 2016, Song was entitled "lifetime" academician of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History, and Literature (Academia brasileira de Ciências, Artes, História e Literatura).
