China launches 16 million shared bikes by July, creating 100,000 jobs

A total of 16 million shared bikes have been launched in China by July 2017, said a report released on Monday at the 7th Smart City Expo held in Ningbo, eastern China’s Zhejiang province, on Sept. 9.

The report was issued by the country’s Sharing Economy Research Institute under the State Information Center.

According to the report, the bike-sharing industry has created about 100,000 jobs so far.

Currently, about 50 million orders are being placed each day, with each bike being ridden 3.125 times. By the end of June, shared bike users has reached 106 million people in China, accounting for 14.11% of the country’s online population.

In addition, bike sharing has also become a name card of Chinese innovation. Ofo, a leading enterprise of the industry, has expanded its business to 170 cities in 9 countries, offering a total of over 8 million bikes.

The industry has created 100,000 jobs, 70% of which were created in the first half of 2017.
