DPRK rejects new UNSC resolution

(Xinhua)    21:12, August 07, 2017

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Monday rejected the new United Nations Security Council resolution on its nuclear and missile program.

"This U.N. sanctions resolution, to all intents and purposes, is an outcome of diabolical attempts of the U.S. to isolate and stifle the DPRK, which constitutes a flagrant infringement upon its sovereignty and an open challenge to it," said the statement of the DPRK government, carried by the Korean Central News Agency.

It said the successful test-launches of ICBM by Pyongyang is "a stern warning" to Washington over its "the policy of extreme hostility" toward DPRK.

The statement brushed off economic sanctions as useless means to pressure the country to abandon its nuclear and missile program.

The U.N. Security Council on Sunday unanimously passed the resolution to reinforce economic sanctions against the DPRK in a bid to cut its foreign revenues by one third or one billion U.S. dollars every year, reducing its fund for nuclear and missile development program.

It came after Pyongyang conducted two test launches of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
