Innovative tree-planting methods have been developed and used in Kubuqi desert

Over 300 stakeholders from over 30 countries are expected at the Kubuqi international convention centre in northeast China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from July 28-30 for an international forum on desert control. Those attending the conference are high-level government and international organization officials, scientists, business leaders, entrepreneurs, economists and media representatives. The theme of the 6th Kubuqi international desert forum is “Greening the Belt and Road, sharing the desert eco-economy.”

27 African journalists visited Kubuqi last month to learn about desert control strides

Role of Elion Resources Group

The forum was initiated in 2007 to promote ecological economic development and mitigate desertification issues. The venue of the conference is the Kubuqi Seven Stars Lakes Desert Hotel, a five-star facility where participants will also stay. Amongst the key organizers of the forum is Elion Resources Group, whose experience and innovative technology has over the years reclaimed a third of Kubuqi desert for human habitation and agriculture.

Sharing China’s desertification efforts

A conference source who preferred to remain anonymous said Elion plans to share its new ecological big data and use of water containers in planting desert trees. “Using innovative technologies 10 times more efficient than traditional methods, Elion has been able to cultivate over 1,000 cold-resistant, drought-enduring and saline-tolerant plant seeds. It has also initiated an ecological photovoltaic industry that integrates desertification control, power generation, plantation agriculture, animal husbandry and poverty alleviation,” the source added.

Last month, 27 African journalists visited Kubuqi to see how China’s desertification control and poverty alleviation programmes have turned the desert into an oasis of hope. Experts say the Kubuqi international desert forum has made great contributions to China’s ecological civilization construction and has become an important platform for sharing experiences and technology on desertification governance.

Desert control measures have attracted about 100 wild bird and animal species to Kubuqi
