China’s first batch of 91 artificially-hatched green sea turtle babies struggled out of their eggs in the country’s southern province of Guangdong, July 27, according to the provincial oceans and fisheries department.
The hatching rate of the first batch of 99 eggs was 91.9 percent. A total of 830 eggs have been laid by four artificially-bred adult turtles. The successful hatch filled in the blanks of China’s wild turtle artificial reproduction technology.
Guangdong wild turtle protection zoo launched an artificial reproduction project in 2008 in a bid to increase the number of wild turtles.
