At least one person has been killed and 31 others have been injured following a gas leak incident at a chemicals factory in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Eighteen of the 31 people injured were left in critical condition.
The incident occurred at around 6:56 p.m. local time on Wednesday in Jimsar County. All of the injured and wounded were taken to hospital.
Local authorities activated an emergency response soon after the incident.
An investigation and rescue operation are currently underway.
