Wuhan Tianhe International Airport’s phase-3 project to build the largest terminal and widest viaduct with central China and the country’s tallest air traffic control tower and highest degree of airport integration will soon be put into operation.
The airport is designed to be easily accessible by subway, intercity rail, bus, taxi, and more, offering a convenient travel experience for everyone.
Major construction projects include an expansion project, an air traffic control center, a transport hub, an intercity railway line, and a subway line. The third phase of the project was approved in 2009.
Wuhan is a naturally advantageous location for the project, because it is reachable by air from a number of major cities within two hours. The third phase of the project will further consolidate the airport’s leading position as a central hub, according to an official with the project’s command office. The airport will handle 350 million passengers, 440,000 tons of cargo, and 365,000 takeoffs and landings by 2020, he added.
The airport’s parking area will be able to accommodate over 8,000 vehicles and its baggage check-in system will be fully automated. Additionally, more automated machines will be installed to reduce waiting time and increase efficiency.
