Four passengers were recently discovered wearing gold necklaces weighing a total of 9.94 kilograms, with a total value of 3 million RMB ($437,707). The passengers were leaving for Hong Kong from the Chinese mainland, according to Guangzhou customs. The case has been transferred to the province's anti-smuggling department for further investigation.
The customs department pointed out that travelers carrying more than 50 grams of gold or gold products may only leave the country with a special exit permit, which is awarded on the premise that the names and quantities of the items have been certified by the People’s Bank of China.
