(ECNS) -- New college graduates employed in internet development, computer science and data processing led their peers in other industries when it came to average salaries in 2016, MyCOS said in a new survey report.

MyCOS received samples from around 289,000 new college grads in 2016, including 147,000 enrolled in undergraduate programs and 142,000 in higher vocational programs.

Half a year after completing an undergraduate program, grads working in Internet development and application topped the salary rankings in 2016, with average monthly pay of 5,679 yuan ($824), followed by those working in computer and data processing at 5,636 yuan, and then those in real estate at 5,057 yuan.

As for grads enrolled in higher vocational programs, those who worked in operations and management positions topped the rankings as they earned an average of 4,557 yuan a month half a year after graduation, followed by those in real estate, with pay of 4,494 yuan, and those in aviation/machinery/electronics, with 4,359 yuan.

MyCOS also tracked respondents who graduated in 2013 for three consecutive years, and received about 50,000 samples.

The results showed that for undergraduates who graduated in 2013, those who worked as lawyers or legal investigators saw the biggest growth in monthly income in 2016, up 126 percent from 2013, followed by those in medical care and first aid services, up 120 percent, and those in agriculture/forestry/husbandry/fishery, up 119 percent.

For higher vocational grads, those who worked in operations and management positions experienced the largest increase in monthly pay, up 124 percent, followed by those in computer and data processing, up 118 percent, and those in real estate, up 117 percent.

Computer science and data processing, internet development and application, operations and management, and real estate offered the highest starting salaries, and also saw the fastest growth, while other jobs, such as those in medical care and first aid, and agriculture/forestry/husbandry/fishery, saw sound growth in the longer term despite offering a mediocre starting salary, said the report.
