Jingba railway, the rail project to connect Beijing and Bazhou in northern China's Hebei privince, broke ground on May 21. The route will be an integral part of the Bejing-Kowloon high-speed railway, as well as a speedy connection between Beijing’s new airport and the newly-established Xiong’an New Area.

According to Huo Jianli, project manager of China Railway Group Beijing, Jingba railway is designed to operate at 350 kilometers per hour, and the project is set to be completed in 2019. A key part of the project is a railway station underneath Beijing's new airport in the city's southern suburbs. The overall construction area of the station will exceed 115,000 square meters, including a 3-kilometer-long tunnel.

"When the railway station is completed, it will become a convenient hub of transportation with modern facilities, providing travelers with transfer-free access from the railway station to the new airport,” Huo said.
