The 14th Senior Officials' Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea  was held in Guiyang in southwest China's Guizhou Province on Thursday.

China and the Philippines could consider jointly exploring the untapped oil and gas in the South China Sea, before the outstanding disputes surrounding those waters are ultimately settled, said China's Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin.

Liu shared this option with reporters on May 18, after the 14th Senior Officials' Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea. The meeting was held in Guiyang in southwest China's Guizhou Province.

Liu also confirmed that energy cooperation was among the deals inked during the "Belt and Road" forum in Beijing on May 14-15. Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping witnessed the signing of the deals.

A Chinese foreign ministry press release said on Thursday that all parties have agreed to peacefully resolve the disputes through negotiations and dialogue.

The Chinese government greatly appreciates Duterte’s positive and productive stance on the South China Sea issue, said Liu.
