On Wednesday, the Association of East Asian Relations, a Taiwanese organization responsible for handling ties with Japan, announced its name change to Taiwan-Japan Relations Association, which Beijing regarded as an attempt to level up relationships between Taiwan and Japan.
At a press conference on Thursday, An Fengshan, Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson, said the Foreign Ministry had already expressed disapproval and urged Japan to abide by the one-China policy and not to disturb China-Japan ties.
