China will hold a Belt and Road tourism ministerial meeting in Chengdu, in southwest China's Sichuan Province in September, the National Tourism Administration (NTA) announced on Thursday, days after a major Belt and Road Forum concluded in Beijing.

The meeting, jointly held by the NTA and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), will take place during the 22nd UNWTO General Assembly from September 11 to 16.

Topics on the agenda will include deepening tourism cooperation among Belt and Road countries, building the Silk Road tourism brand, developing tourist products and simplifying visa policies to facilitate travel.

The announcement came after the first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation concluded in Beijing on Monday, with 29 heads of state in attendance.

The Belt and Road Initiative, first proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013, refers to the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road," with the aim of improving trade and infrastructure connecting Asia with Europe and Africa.
