A nine-day-long program to collect garbage on the north side of Mount Qomolangma, or Mount Everest, kicked off on May 6. Participants in the program will clean up the area from the main base camp located at 5,200 meters above sea level to the Qianjin Base Camp located at 6,500 meters above sea level, where mountaineers tend to leave waste including discarded food, torn tents, and empty oxygen bottles.
