Scientists eliminate HIV from live animal for first time

American scientists have used CRISPR gene-editing to remove HIV from the genomes of a living mouse, eliminating the infection in its entirely. This achievement is regarded as a major step toward finding a cure for HIV. The research team, led by Dr. Wenhui Hu, a Chinese American, first deactivated HIV-1 through gene-editing in 2014.
