OZ Encounter 21: Oysters in Batemans Bay

By Luyi Zhong (People's Daily Online)    16:35, April 28, 2017

Batemans Bay, known as the back garden of Canberra, has a perfect location and scenery. This town is the second largest oyster provider in New South Wales. Of course, the highlight is to visit the oyster farm and try the oysters.

When we arrived, Steven, owner of Pearly Oyster Bar, welcomed us warmly and invited us to join his 'Oy-uxury Cruise' to the inner bay. After passing a trail paved with Oyster shell in Steven’s backyard, we sat on his boat and started our journey. As Steven introduced to us, there are many wild oysters in this river. However, due to the high labor costs of collecting these wild oysters, he eventually chose to farm oysters. Compared to the wild ones, farmed oysters in the same waters are also of excellent quality. The main oysters farmed here are Sydney Rock Oysters and Pacific Oysters. With his kind invitation, everyone had a try and the refreshing and endless taste has been the best memory for our trip.
