Labyrinth-like crossroad in Shenyang

A crossroad in Shenyang, Liaoning province has attracted attention for its intricate, labyrinth-like appearance. Pedestrians and drivers often get lost in the maze when they first encounter it.

From above, the crossroad resembles a Bagua trigram, eight symbols used in Taoist cosmology to represent the fundamental principles of reality. With criss-crossing one-way streets and shady paths, even experienced drivers can easily become disoriented. In addition, unmanned aerial vehicles frequently get lost when they are dispatched to take photos above the area.

The crossroad was built by a warlord in accordance with Bagua tactics to prevent enemies from escaping. Nowadays, the puzzling pattern promotes business, as people have no choice but to remain for long periods inside the crossroad as they attempt to navigate their way out.
