Premier urges more clean governance efforts

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday called on the country's officials to be clean and diligent in their work.

He also urged more efforts to ensure clean governance and fight corruption.

Li was addressing the the State Council's fifth meeting on clean governance, attended by vice premiers Zhang Gaoli, Wang Yang and Ma Kai.

Wang Qishan, secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC), attended the meeting on invitation.

Praising progress in clean governance and fighting corruption, Li noted that there are still problems requiring stronger measures. He called for further efforts in delegating power, streamlining administration and using Internet to improve government service.

He also said governments at all levels should promote thrift and continue to cut taxes and fees, noting that embezzlement and irregularities in public spending should be investigated and punished.

The premier called for better supervision of state assets, state-owned enterprises and the financial sector, including stricter scrutiny of major outbound investment projects.

Li stressed the importance of compliance with regulations in public biddings and government purchases, and vowed tough punishment of graft in poverty alleviation, social security, affordable housing and medical insurance.
