A bar-tailed pheasant was spotted on Wei Mountain in Yunnan province on March 20. This rare and little-known pheasant is found in forested regions in China, India, Myanmar and Thailand. However, due to ongoing habitat loss, fragmented populations and hunting, the bird is now evaluated as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is also listed on Appendix I of CITES. According to local authorities, this is the first time the bird was spotted in the region. (Chinanews.com)
