Construction of Beijing's new airport is steadily progressing. The terminal's concrete work was finished on the morning of March 16, and the steel structure will soon be installed. The terminal building's facade is due to be completed before the year's end.
Located in the southern suburb of Daxing District, construction of the new airport began in 2014. It is scheduled to be completed in 2019. According to an authority at the site, the construction of the terminal was started on March 15, 2016. Work on the main structure has so far seen a total of 1.66 million cubic meters of concrete poured and 320,000 tons of steel bars tied.
For passengers' convenience, the terminal was designed to radiate outward from its center. From the center of the terminal to the furthest boarding gate is only 600 meters. In addition, it will offer easy access to nationwide transportation, as high-speed railway platforms and subways will be located beneath the terminal.
The total area of the new airport's terminal is 1.03 million square meters, making it the largest airport terminal in the world.
