Accompanied by loud detonations, 19 buildings in Wuhan's Binjiang business district were reduced to rubble on the evening of Jan. 21.
Altogether, the buildings possessed a floor area of 150,000 square meters, making the implosion the largest of its kind in China. Five tons of explosives were used in the process, with the whole demolition lasting 10 seconds. Monitoring data shows that the explosions did not impact the light rails, overpasses and neighborhoods nearby. The newly vacant land will be used to construct the center of Wuhan's business district.
