Beggars go cash-free in Shenzhen

As Chinese society increasingly forgoes cash in favor of mobile payments, beggars are following suit. Wang, who has begged in Shenzhen, Guangdong province for nine years, has developed a new way to beg by letting donors scan the QR code pasted on his cup. After spending 500 RMB (about $73) on a smartphone years ago, Wang now receives a daily income of 80 to 90 RMB via the phone.
