A Chinese factory has specially remanufactured 50 green Tommee Tippee cups for an autistic boy in Britain, who will only drink water from that cup, though it went out of production 13 years ago.
Ben Carter, 14, has been sent to the emergency room twice for dehydration, as he refuses to drink water without his beloved green cup. Carter has been using the same cup since the age of 2, and his current one is falling apart, BBC reported.
Ben’s story went viral soon after his father tweeted for help. The green sippy cup’s Chinese manufacturer, Dongguan-based Jackel China Limited (JC), noticed the story and decided to help the boy.
“The green cups went out of production in 2003. We checked the cup’s production record in an effort to discover its original design and formulation. We have already sent 50 samples to Ben’s father. Once [Carter] approves the sample’s color and type, we will produce between 500 and 1,000 cups for free to ensure a life's supply,” Li Jieying, JC’s Asia marketing director, told Nanfang Daily.

According to Li, the cups may take two to three weeks to manufacture, and will require the use of three pieces of dedicated equipment. The factory plans to send the cups to Carter between Christmas and New Year's Eve as a holiday gift.
“We are reproducing the cups only 10 days after Ben’s father’s online appeal. We think [the reproduction] is very meaningful, as it can save Ben’s life and promote positive energy,” Li added.
The factory’s decision has received a warm welcome on Chinese social media. The hashtag “ATinyCupMadeInChina” has garnered over 31 million page views as of press time, with most comments expressing approval and good wishes for Carter.
“I have tears in my eyes when I read this story. I feel so proud of the Chinese company, as they have made so much effort to save a foreign child. I hope Ben can feel our love, knowing that there are so many people who care for him, so he can give that love to more people when he grows up,” one netizen wrote.
