GUANGZHOU, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Police in south China's Guangdong Province have seized two tonnes of methamphetamine, or meth, in the latest crackdown on a cross-border drug trafficking ring.

Deng Jianwei, head of drug enforcement at Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, said Thursday that police in Jieyang, Shanwei, Shenzhen and Guangzhou cities, arrested more than 10 suspects and closed two drug production sites in two police operations.

Police also seized two replica handguns and more than 10 bullets.

In mid September, local police received a tip-off that several people, including one from Hong Kong and one from Vietnam, were seeking to traffic drugs to Hong Kong, Deng said.

Late last month, police stormed a drugs production site in Panyu, Guangzhou and seized one suspect and 1.1 tones of solid and liquid meth, he said.

The remaining members of the drug ring then moved production to Jieyang. This month, police stormed the second site and seized more than 10 suspects and 0.9 tonnes of meth, Deng said.

In the first three quarters of the year, police in Guangdong uncovered 15,000 drugs cases, arrested 19,000 suspects and seized 14.7 tonnes of drugs.
