A man named Li Huawen from southeastern China's Yunnan province has made 88 Buddha statues out of scrap metal parts, Chinanews.com reported on Oct. 7. It took Li two years to complete the statues, and the materials he used were mostly spare parts such as gears, nails and car rims.

Inspired by a man from Beijing who creates artwork with scrap metal, Li started trying to make Buddha statues 15 years ago. He said it is interesting to bring life to the old metal. Beside Buddha statues, Li also creates various religious crafts.

"It's easy to pile up spare parts, but it takes time to create art," said Li. There are a number of people who create crafts out of scrap metal, but Li hopes to innovate the art form and add more value to his business.
