LONDON Jun. 29 (People's Daily Online) — 2016 Open City Documentary Festival opened for the sixth year that run 6 days in 9 venues across London in June, created an open space in London to nurture the art of creative documentary and non-fiction filmmakers.

This year, the programme offers a chance to see the best in contemporary, international documentary as well as filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, workshops, networking and parties.

Professor Michael Stewart, Founding Director of Open City Docs says to People's Daily Online UK: “Our goal remains the same as when we set out in 2011: to bring the best in global cinematic documentary to London in a festive and truly open celebration of the work. Today documentary cinema is booming as never before - with more and more young filmmakers concerned to make art and not just reportage - and at Open City Documentary Festival we continue to support these new and emerging talents in non-fiction filmmaking."

He added: “Since we set out on this journey we have set up Open City Docs School, the courses of which promote the art-form as a discipline. The quality of the work produced by the students on our MA course - led this year by Richard Alwyn, Vikram Jayanti, Sandhya Suri and Penny Woolcock - is testament to the skill of the next generation of filmmakers."
