Chinese authorities are calling on Pyongyang and Seoul to make efforts to safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying made the remarks in response to reports that North Korea had attempted to test an intermediate-range ballistic missile on Tuesday.
"UN Security Council resolutions have made clear stipulations on the North Korea nuclear issue. The situation on the Korean Peninsula is complicated and sensitive at present. China urges all sides to avoid actions that could escalate tensions, so that they can work together to maintain peace and stability on the Peninsula."
According to South Korea's Yonhap news agency, the North attempted to fire what's believed to be a Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missile on Tuesday morning.
The report said the launch appeared to have failed.
