Elevator Made Sudden Plunge from 39th Floor in SW China, Killing 4

The construction site in Southwest China's city of Chengdu in which an elevator plunged and killed four on October 5, 2015. 

An elevator in a construction site made sudden plunge from 39th floor in “Shilong Square” on the Tianfuyi Street in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China’s Sichuan province on October 5, 2015. Four workers in the elevator car have been killed.

Witnesses say that they heard piercing sounds of metal from the dashing elevator, and that the victims’ faces were covered in blood when they were rescued.

It is yet unknown whether the incident was caused by mechanical failure or misoperation. Further investigation is under way.
