BEIJING, March 30 -- Vice Premier Wang Yang on Monday urged China and the United States to make "significant" progress in bilateral relations.

The two countries should negotiate a bilateral investment treaty (BIT), cooperate on climate change, energy and investment, Wang said at a meeting with visiting U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew.

Wang and Lew had a frank exchange of views on important issues. The vice premier called for fruitful economic dialogue this summer in the United States.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United Stated in September and Wang expects the two countries to work together to ensure the success of the visit.

China-U.S. relationship made new progress in the past year, Wang noted, urging the two sides to fully implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state.

As special representative of U.S. President Barack Obama, Lew said the U.S. side is willing to promote a productive economic dialogue and prepare well for President Xi's visit.
