BEIJING, Jan. 23 -- China will work with Russia to maintain sound momentum in developing bilateral relations, said a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Friday.

Spokeswoman Hua Chunying made the comments after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that the partnership between Russia and China gained solid ground in safeguarding global and regional stability and security.

China appreciates Russia's positive attitude on expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation, said Hua, noting that China attaches great importance to the development of their comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.

China will make joint efforts with Russia to promote common development and prosperity and safeguard peace, security and stability in the region and the world, she said at a routine press briefing.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Hua said as two main battlefields in Asia and Europe during World War II, China and Russia will hold a series of celebrations, and state leaders will attend commemorations held in each other's country.
