China's top political consultative body Tuesday approved a draft expelling Ling Jihuafrom the body.

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has proposed the draft and will submit it to the CPPCC Standing Committee.

According to the draft, Ling, former vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, is to be removed from his post and stripped of his role as senior political advisor, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

Ling was removed from the position as the director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee in September 2012, after sources said his son was involved in a deadly crash involving a Ferrari and was investigated for "suspected serious disciplinary violation" on December 22, 2014.

In June 2014, Ling's elder brother Ling Zhengce was removed from his post as vice-chairman of the CPPCC provincial committee of North China's Shanxi Province for suspected serious disciplinary violations.

Ling's other brother, Ling Wancheng, founder of a private equity firm, was also arrested in November.

Ling is one of the highest-ranking officials to be placed under investigation since President Xi Jinpinglaunched a high-profile anti-corruption campaign.

More than 56 officials of vice-ministerial level or above have been reportedly brought down in the past two years, including former national security chief and CPC Central Committee Political Bureau member Zhou Yongkang, and former vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission Xu Caihou.
